V de V Championship: Magny Cours 8th - 10th July, 2005
An incredibly long week - travelling to the
Spa 25 hour VW Fun Cup race from Magny
Cours
V de V and back again, Woody had to
remember exactly why the series was called ‘Fun Cup.’ With RSR drivers Adrian
Mardlin, Rob Croydon and Phillip Harris doing the 25 hr the team was split
between 2 countries - two Bens and Jamie spannering in Spa the rest of the
team were in the rain ( and the sun, eventually) at Magny Cours. Simon Phillips
shared his newly delivered Norma with Tony Holdich, while championship leaders
Jono Coleman and Nigel Greensall raced their orange
Norma. Steve Lord partnered Lee Foster in their SR3.

The rain cleared up and the sun came out for the beginning
of the 4-hour race. The race was stopped after about 2 hours when the fuel pipe
from the
tanker came off, flooding the fuelling just as the majority of the cars were due
to stop. As
cars queued up and waited there was no sign of a yellow flag or any more fuel
from the pumps until the race was eventually stopped with many cars, including
race leader Jono, out of petrol.
Finally the race was restarted from grid positions at the two hour mark in.
Simon’s new pride and joy, the white Norma, was delivered and run
in on Thursday ready for qualifying and racing over the weekend. It finished the
race in a very respectable 10th place. Steve and Lee finished in 31st
place taking home a few buckets of gravel to play with. Nigel and Jono
suffered huge disappointment when they pitted, from P1, with 8 mins to go with what was thought to
be a flat rear tyre but was actually a badly damaged radiator. The car ended up
6th overall.
